The effect of partner HFAHL on NH talker midfrequency emphasis was reduced when the HI interlocutor was aided in comparison to the unaided condition. A nearzero effect of partner HFAHL on NH talker midfrequency emphasis was observed across all acoustic environments in aided conditions (slope = 0.06, 95% CI [−0.34, 0.47]). A nonsignificant positive relationship was observed between partner HFAHL and NH talker midfrequency emphasis in unaided conversations (slope = 0.31, 95% CI [−0.10, 0.71]; see Figure 5). There was a significant reduction of the positive effect of partner HFAHL on NH talker midfrequency emphasis in aided conditions relative to unaided conditions of −0.24 (95% CI [−0.37, −0.11]).On the decibel scale, when HI interlocutors were aided, NH conversation partners produced speech with 0.08 dB(95% CI [−0.42, 0.59]) more midfrequency emphasis forevery 10-dB increase in partner HFAHL compared to anincrease of 0.38 dB (95% CI [−0.12, 0.89]) for every 10-dBincrease in partner HFAHL in unaided conditions. Every 10 dB of partner HFAHL conditioned the production of an additional 0.3 dB (95% CI [0.14, 0.46]) of midfrequency emphasis by NH talkers in unaided conditions relative to aided conditions
