私はアメリカの大学で国際関係を学びたいと思っています。そのために一年で海外大学を目指す語学学校に入ろうと思っていたのですが、お金が一年でそこだけで300万くらいかかってしまいます。今とても悩んでいます。アメリカに直接行く英語もできないし、お金も高いということ。それだったら２年ぐらいフィリピンやマレーシアでしっかり学び、その後アメリカの大学に編入しようかと。みんなと一年や二年遅れをとってしまいますが。なにかいい方法はあるでしょうか。

現在英語の規格世界基準はIELTSです。就職も就学も永住もIELTSが要求されます。アメリカやカナダの留学では依然としてTOEFLが強いです。ですがアメリカとカナダの半数以上の大学で入学条件の前提条件としてIELTSも認めています。ヨーロッパではIELTSのみ認められています。

日本で人気のTOEICですが海外ではあまり認められておりません。

フィリピンでいい学校（高いという意味ではありません。安くてもいい学校もたくさんあります。もちろん高くていい学校もたくさんあります。）で英語ビギナーが1年勉強した場合目標とするIELTS点数は6.0から6.5です。

仮に1年で6.0取得とペースが遅かったとしてもあと１２週あれば6.5圏内に届きく人が多いです。

ですから欧米圏を想定して長期留学や日本での集中学習を目指すのであれば6.5獲得を目的としたほうがいいです。（もし念頭におくアメリカの大学がTOEFLしか認めてないのであれば、ターゲットはTOEFLになりますが。TOEFLは学術的に非常に優れた試験です。難易度もIELTSより若干難しいです。ただアメリカ、カナダの大学、大学院専用です。他につぶしが効かないのがこの資格の弱点です。）

最初にアメリカに行くという方法はあまりお勧めいたしません。英語ビギナーがいきなり欧米圏に行っても挫折する可能性が高いからです。

私の時代はIELTSはまだなかったです。在学中にTOEFL受験をし学校に提出するというスタイルでした。アメリカの大学は入学が結構簡単です。その当時の英語力ですが入学前にほとんどの本は辞書なし読めるくらいのリーディング力はありました。ですがライティング、スピーキング、リスニング力は弱かったです。

大学生活はものすごく辛かったです。金曜日夜以外朝から晩まで勉強していました。それくらいしないと卒業できないからです。

フィリピン留学される方で英語ビギナーの9割以上はスピーキング力up狙いです。とにかくしゃべれるようになりたいという願望を果たすためにフィリピンに行きます。

ですがお客様がフィリピン留学を目指す場合にはそういう目的ではだめです。
英語力全般を高めるカリキュラムの学校でなければなりません。

アメリカ大学を卒業するために必要なのは全般的な英語力です。スピーキング力は後ろ回しにする部分です。（大学で真面目に勉強していればスピーキングは自然とうまくなります。）

一番必要なのは読解力です。読解力と言っても日本で習うような文章毎の翻訳ではありません。
ざーっと辞書を引かずとも読んで大体の大意を把握する事です。

授業前にその日に習う分量をざーっと目を通して授業に望みます。すると先生が何を言っているか理解できますし、先生の独自の解釈部分もノートに書き留める事ができます。ここが試験にでます。

私の場合予習をやっておかないで授業に出てれば先生の言っている事が理解できませんでした。ですから予習は必ず必要だと思っています。

1科目1時間につき教科書20~30ページくらい進みますから一ターム15単位取るのであれば毎週200~400ページくらい読んどかなければならなくなります。

そして書かなければならない事が多いのでライティング力も必ず必要です。

アメリカの大学を卒業する上で特に重要となるのはリーディング力、ライティング力、リスニング力です。

そしてそういう基礎固めの教育が一番適しているのはフィリピンのスパルタ学校です。スピーキング力向上に力を入れながらも英語力全般を引き上げてくれます。マンツーマン授業が多めのセミスパルタですとスピーキング特化の傾向が強いです。

アメリカを想定したプランですと最初の基礎固めでスパルタ16週から24週、次がIELTSに強い学校で24週。これでIELTS 6.0から6.5を目指します。

ハーバード大のMBAはIELTS 7.0を要求しています。ですが普通のアメリカ大学でしたら大体どこでも6.0点持っていれば入れてくれると思います。そして6.0あれば大学に十分ついていけるとも思います。
