IELTSの戦女神(ワルキューレ)。バギオCNS2マネージャーに突撃インタビュー

こんにちは、フィルイングリシュの新井です。この度、バギオIELTS専門校CNS2訪問時に、唯一の日本人マネージャーであるAKARIさんに突撃インタビューを敢行致しました。(今回は突撃すぎて、顔出しNGとなりました。)

1.どうしてマネージャーになったのですか？
フィリピンのバコロドで留学経験があり、留学中、学生をサポートする学生マネージャーの仕事に興味を持っていました。その後は、オーストラリアへのワーキングホリデーを検討していた時期もあったのですが、フィルイングリッシュさんを通してCNS2の学生マネージャーに応募し、現在に至ります。

2.実際マネージャーになってみてどうですか？
毎日が本当に充実しています。毎日解決すべき課題が発生して、それとの格闘！一日として同じ日がないですね。

3.この学校の魅力を教えて下さい。
IELTS留学 とにかくIELTSに集中して学習できる環境です。特に学生のIELTSに掛ける意気込みは半端ではなく、学生の意識レベルと真剣度は相当高いです。ウチの学校の学習雰囲気が一番だと自信をもっています。
個人的には、英語を習得するということは楽しいことだけではない、と感じています。例えどれだけ学習したとしても、みんながみんな目標とするスコアを取れるわけではありません。そういった「自分の英語力の現実を知れる」という意味でも、ウチの学校はお勧めかもしれませんね(笑)。


4.どのように学生ケアを行っていますか？
現在18歳～50歳までの学生がいて、その多くは20代後半～30代の方なのですが、できるだけ毎日、学生さんには話しかけるよう心掛けています。韓国人学生と違い、日本人学生はなかなか悩みを言わないので･･･その他、月1回の学生アンケートもとっています。
学生からよく聞く話としては、あまりにも他校と学習雰囲気が違いすぎて、最初は戸惑われる学生が多いことですね。例えば、学習法とかです。そんなとき、例えばアカデミックモジュールであれば、ボキャブラリーを1つでも増やして下さい等のアドバイスをすることが多いです。
また、その人の目標スコアと学習期間によって、アドバイス内容を変えています。例えば、2ヶ月でIELTS 6.0を目指す学生には「全力疾走して下さい」と声を掛けますが、6ヶ月ある学生には「ゆっくり頑張っていこう」と声を掛ける、とかですね。
やっぱりウチは、授業の予習･復習･宿題も含め、とても学習量の多い学校ですし、目標と現在の英語力のギャップが明確に出ますので、どの学生もなにかしらのストレスを抱えています。でもストレスがあるからこそ人間は勉強できるんだと思いませんか？(笑)

5.最近あった困った問題があったら教えて下さい。
私がCNS2で初めての日本人マネージャーですので、すべてを一から私がつくっていかなければいけないことが困ったことですかね･･･でもやりがいがあります！

6.学生の満足度はどうですか？
みんな2度とここには帰ってきたくないといいます(笑)。そうそう、ここは学生たちの間で、通称「プリズン」と呼ばれていて、学生同士の飲み会でも、頃合の良い時間になると、「みんな、そろそろプリズンに帰ろう」という声が聞こえてきます･･･また、卒業を迎える友達に周囲が掛ける言葉も、「おつとめ、ごくろうさまでした」ですよ･･･でも、みんな達成感に酔いしれて帰国するので、見ていてとても気持ちが良いです。

7.最近変わった出来事はありましたか？
毎日すべてのものが変わっていく、それが最近変わっていることです。

8.入学前の注意事項と覚悟しておいた方が良い事を教えて下さい。
CNS2のあるバギオは、フィリピンでも南の島じゃないということですね。まず涼しいですし(笑)。
持ってきてほしいものとしては、長袖の服、折りたたみ傘、ビオフェルミン等の整腸剤、IELTS Speaking録画用のUSBメモリ、IELTSの日本語問題集2冊ほど、DUOやキクタン等の単語集、ノートPCでしょうか。あ、OSに関して、マックの方はなにかと不便がありますので、できればウィンドウズがお勧めです。
あとは基礎的な英語力は鍛えてから来た方が良いと思います。例えば日本で基礎的な勉強してからとか、フィリピン留学の2校目として、とかです。そうじゃないと留学中、少し苦しくなるかもしれません。

9.最後に、この学校に留学を考えている方に一言お願い致します。
IELTS留学CNS2自習室 とにかくIELTSの得点が欲しい方だけに来てほしいです！特に、海外で何かをやりたいという強い夢、目標、意志がある人ですね。他校のESLコースと違って、具体的で強い目標意識がないと、このプリズンを卒業できないです。
私としても、学生にはここを「中継地」として考えてほしいといつも言っています。だから、あえて「それじゃ、ここでは続かないよ」と学生に厳しく言うこともあります。
やっ ぱり多くの学生が土日、少なくとも日曜には自習室で学習していますし、ホーリーウィーク(※フィリピンの長期連休)でも学習している人がいました。自習室の雰囲気ですか？もう張り詰めた空気しか感じない･･･たまに自習室をモニターしていて恐怖を感じるときがあります、みんな集中し過ぎていて(笑)

あ、最後の一言ですか･･･「覚悟しておいで」になりますでしょうか。
